Special Olympics Fundraising Dinner
Date – 24/06/05
Venue – Thistle Hotel, Glasgow

This July Glasgow played host to the Special Olympics in one of the biggest sporting events in the UK since the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver – sister of President John F Kennedy, the Special Olympics’ mission is to give athletes with learning disabilities continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of skills and friendship with their families, other special Olympic Athletes and the community.’

Daily Record Events were honoured to be working with the 2005 Organising Committee to deliver a very special gala dinner to celebrate and raise funds for this truly worthy sporting event.

Dougie Donnelly hosted the ‘Trainers & Tiaras’ themed evening where guests enjoyed a champagne reception, lavish meal and live performances from American soul legends The Drifters and Scottish pop sensation Darius.

Members of the Glasgow business community were as usual outstanding in their generosity and the charity auction with celebrity MC Andy Cameron raised a fantastic amount for the games.
