This July
Glasgow played host to the Special
Olympics in one of the biggest
sporting events in the UK since
the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Founded in
1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver
– sister of President
John F Kennedy, the Special
Olympics’ mission is to
give athletes with learning
disabilities continuing opportunities
to develop physical fitness,
demonstrate courage, experience
joy and participate in the sharing
of skills and friendship with
their families, other special
Olympic Athletes and the community.’

Events were honoured to be working
with the 2005 Organising Committee
to deliver a very special gala
dinner to celebrate and raise
funds for this truly worthy
sporting event.
Dougie Donnelly
hosted the ‘Trainers &
Tiaras’ themed evening
where guests enjoyed a champagne
reception, lavish meal and live
performances from American soul
legends The Drifters and Scottish
pop sensation Darius.
Members of
the Glasgow business community
were as usual outstanding in
their generosity and the charity
auction with celebrity MC Andy
Cameron raised a fantastic amount
for the games.
