Events were honoured to pay
a special tribute to Scotland's
most inspirational and successful
golfer, Colin Montgomerie.
At a spectacular dinner at
the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow,
over 800 guests paid tribute
to Monty in recognition of
his achievements in finishing
number one on the European
Order of Merit for a record
8th time.
Dougie Donnelly hosted the
evening and Sky Sports presenter
Robert Lee interviewed former
Scottish rugby captains Gavin
Hastings, Andy Nicol and Executive
Director of the European Tour,
and George O'Grady who all
shared their own special memories
of the guest of honour with
the audience.
The highlight of the evening
was comic legend Ronnie Corbett
who provided the after dinner
speech.
Funding raised on the evening
from a charity auction and
raffle will support sport in
Scotland and in particular
golf with the endowment of
a golf scholarship at Stirling
University.
Businessman
Austin Carey bid an incredible £27,000
for the star auction prize
of being Monty's caddy for
one day at the Masters in Augusta
2006 and in total over £50,000
was raised.
In the climax of a truly auspicious
occasion Sir Michael Bonallack
presented Colin with a beautiful
commemorative crystal rose
bowl engraved with all his
outstanding achievements.
